Haiti: We will join all parishes in Utah and accept donations after all Masses to go to the needs of the people in Haiti, through the Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Checks may be made to St. Catherine's with a note in the memo line for Haiti-CRS, or to the Diocese of Salt Lake, or to Catholic Relief Services. Bishop Wester is on the Board of CRS and assures us that every penny of donation will go directly to the needs of the Haitian people.
CRS has been ministering to the people in Haiti for years, and with their infrastructure in place right there, they were able to provide needed materials, food and water the moment the earthquake happened, and has initially committed $5 million to the needs in Haiti. Rick Torina, a long-time parishioner is currently serving in Afghanistan with the 467th Medical Detachment. Why is there suffering in the world? Come to hear a presentation by Professor Peter Kreeft from Boston College, who will speak on SUFFERING. Have you ever asked the questions, "Why do good people suffer", "Why does God allow suffering", or "What is God's answer to suffering"? Come to Dr. Kreeft discuss these and other questions. Sunday, January 31, 1:00 -2:30 pm, at the Newman Center.
WHO WE ARE: The community of St. Catherine's Newman Center seeks to promote Catholic campus ministry at the University of Utah in a loving and tolerant manner in order to develop Christian unity through service, social, justice, community building, spirituality, education, and evangelization.
