Parish Life
Welcome to our website! Please look around to get a taste of what we have to offer. We are much more than a place for Mass or go to Confession! We offer opportunities for service to the poor, to fellow Catholics and to members of civic and universities communities; we offer sacramental preparation for children and adults, as well as comprehensive religious education from 1st grade through high school; we offer educational, social and spiritual opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-collegiate young adults to name only a few.Our main mission is to serve as the parish home for Catholic students, faculty and staff at the University of Utah, Westminster College and Salt Lake Community College. However, anyone from the larger community wishing to be a part of this unique and dynamic ministry to the academic community is a welcome parishioner.
We are often known simply as “the Newman Center.” This honors the commitment and zeal of Blessed John Henry (Cardinal) Newman, who was pivotal in the Catholic Church’s ministry to higher education. We have St. Catherine of Siena, the 14th century Dominican mystic and one of the first female Doctors of the Church, as our patron. Friars of the Western Dominican Province have served as Pastors and Associates here since 1981, when we were established as a parish of the Diocese of Salt Lake City; prior to that, many esteemed priests of the Diocese served as chaplains including Rev. Msgrs. Robert Servatius and Terence Moore.
The Newman Center is the University of Utah, Westminster, and SLCC college students Catholic parish. It's a home away from home for students and a thriving center of Catholic Christian spirituality.
